BARAKA
LODGE- Christmas Party
LEADERSHIP
Leadership
as defined by Sharma and Jain (2013) is a practice by which an individual
inspires others to achieve set goals and lead a company in an effective and
efficient manner. A good leader ensures there is team work and leads people
well (Cottrell, 2010). At Baraka Lodge which hosted the Christmas party had the
owner for the company on duty for the event.
During the planning process it was agreed on theme Caribbean island and it seemed the manager and decor company were content with it. On the day of the event the manager and décor company were not in agreement of what Carribean theme is. The manager wanted to use his powers to force the deor company do something totally different with the wrong interpretation of carribean theme. This brought the argument are leaders made or born? The argument
was answered through behavioural theories that leaders are should show what
they can do (Administrative professionals, 2009).The learner realised that the
type of leadership was from a level of top to bottom approach. Lewin’s Three Participatory Leadership Styles (1939) Autocratic
supports the above statement. The leader makes decisions without consulting the
subordinates (Nel, Dyk, Haasbroek, Schultz, Sono and Werner,2006). The whole
process did not go well in terms of the setups as the event was running behind
schedule (Sharma and Jain, 2013). Hence, why leaders should involve
subordinates in decision making.
Ultimately
the group achieved its outcome as per below photos. The clients were satisified. The learner applied her team working skills to
ensure the event become a success. The learner recommends democratic approach
leadership style in which the employees and top management all make
contributions in decision making.
